Hi, I’m Carolyn (the one in the middle with my eyes closed!) a non-sporty dance fitness instructor.
I’ve always LOVED dancing, but HATED sports at school, and going to the gym.
For more than 5 years, I’ve running dance based fitness (and fun!) classes throughout Northamptonshire for ladies who are looking for some escape from the stresses of life and the relentless routines of home.
After starting aerobics in the 80s to escape the never-ending family chores, I became frustrated with the 'not quite right music', and wanted to dance not jump on and off a box!
For the next 20 years I explored tap dancing, line dancing, belly dancing and more, but got totally fed up with the faffing – I just wanted to dance. I didn’t feel the need to do it perfectly, just wanting to enjoy the music, make some friends, get fitter and have some fun!
In 2011, after being accidentally introduced to Zumba fitness and I knew I was hooked immediately. It did exactly what I wanted, dancing without someone telling me it was wrong, the moves fitted in to the music and the music was catchy and uplifting.
It was so much fun that I wanted to do more of it and become an instructor, but lacked confidence. Being older than everybody else, I wasn’t a gym bunny or a professional dancer, just an ordinary, stressed out wife and mother. But with perseverance and determination I qualified as an instructor and have been loving it ever since!
My belief is that a dance class should, first and foremost, be welcoming and supportive for everyone. Also be somewhere where ladies can enjoy being with like-minded people, break free from the stresses of everyday life, improve their fitness and have some fun.
How about you?
